Alice Theobald: They Keep Putting Words in My Mouth! An Operetta of Sorts
11 Sep 13-5 Oct 13

Pilar Corrias is pleased to present a new performance and video by Alice Theobald, They Keep Putting Words in My Mouth! An Operetta of Sorts.

Alice Theobald draws upon a mixture of pop and underground cultural references as she develops multifaceted performances using music, installation, and video. Theobald’s performance and video works point to the substance of their fabrication through playing with the metaphorical potential of language, sound, and movement while directly addressing accepted concepts of spectacle and emotion.

They Keep Putting Words in My Mouth! An Operetta of Sorts looks at existential quandaries and the uncertainties of life through conflating real-life relationships with partly directed role-play and choreographed song and dance. Theobald uses a group of friends and a trainee counsellor as performers to explore slippages that occur between the ephemeral nature of the improvised and the rehearsed as a mediated form of expression. Due to the unexpected instability of the piece both participants and audience begin to question the sincerity and authenticity of the unfolding scenes.

Performances of They Keep Putting Words in My Mouth! An Operetta of Sorts will be held on:
Thursday 3 October 2013, 7pm
Saturday 5 October 2013, 3.30pm and 6.30pm
