John Skoog commission for Daata Editions

For his Daata Editions commission, John Skoog has created 6 sound works of street-recordings along Boulevard Barbès between the metro stations Château Rouge & Barbès Rochechouart and around the street market at Porte de Clignancourt, in the neighbourhood Goutte d’Or located in the north of Paris during March and April in 2016. The street market is known for the Algerian cigarettes, copies of designer belts and hats, smartphones, perfumes and gold necklaces sold there and the products are offered by whispering the brand names to passerby’s. John Skoog has edited the recordings to remove all sounds other than human voices, using a range of plug-ins which are intended for sound sound design in filmmaking. This is a collaborative project with Anne Gry Friis Kristensen.
