Cometa, a performance for two dancers and an audience of one, will be Julião Sarmento’s contribution to Desert X. The performance, which takes place in a hotel room, is designed to be witnessed by one person at a time. An intimate piece addressing the complicity between the performers and spectators – who, one by one, take the role of a voyeur once behind the closed door of the motel room. Set to original music specially composed by Portuguese musician Paulo Furtado, otherwise known as The Legendary Tigerman, is a study of the longings, desire and discomfort that attends the close encounter of strangers. The performance is going to take place for 4 days from 23 February to 26 February, and there will be a talk by Julião Sarmento on 25 February, introducing his multidisciplinary practice in an open ended conversation.
