Okayama Art Summit 2016 is a large-scale international exhibition that aims to produce interaction across all countries, cultures, and ages. For the first ever event, where 31 artists from 16 different countries will gather together, we welcomed artistic director Liam Gillick, an internationally active British artist based in New York.

Through his sculptures, films, large scale exhibits both indoors and outdoors, his writing, and his exhibition planning, Gillick has questioned the relationship between people and society. He has established “Development” to be the theme of the very first Okayama Art Summit.

We will display precious works born here in Okayama such as images that appear in the daily scenery, large-scale illustrations, Japan’s first-time exhibition works, and creations made by artists during their prior visit to Okayama.

At the venue here in Okayama, not only can you view all the various pieces of art, you can confront the thoughts of the artists themselves and experience artistic exchange that crosses over time, history, and country borders.
