Rachel Rose will be featured in the 2017 programme of Kunsthaus Bregenz alongside Argentinian artist Adrián Villar Rojas, and architect Peter Zumthor. Rachel Rose, born in 1986, will be the youngest artist to have made an extensive presentation of their work at Kunsthaus Bregenz.
Memory plays a role in Rose’s work, as does history, but also architecture. She became well-known through a work on Philip Johnson’s Glass House (1948), which is located in New Canaan, Connecticut. Rose also has responded to the new Whitney Museum of American Art by Renzo Piano in New York. Accordingly, Peter Zumthor will be a point of departure for her work at Kunsthaus Bregenz, which will also be broaching issues of perception and capacities for remembering in an era of media recording and digital distribution.
Despite already being honoured by exhibitions at the renowned art spaces around the world, Kunsthaus Bregenz provides an ideal site for Rose’s art: place and history, architecture and nature, observing and being on the lake offer crucial inspiration for her work.
