Keren Cytter at Wysing Arts Centre, Cambridge

Keren Cytter at Wysing Arts Centre, Cambridge
Keren Cytter will be featured in the upcoming group exhibition, Annals of the Twenty-Ninth Century at Wysing Arts Centre, bringing together newly commissioned work by artists who trained at the Arts Centre during the 2013 year as part of the artists’ residency programme including: Anna Barham, James Beckett, Keren Cytter, Cécile B. Evans, Michael Dean, Gustav Metzger, Rupert Norfolk, David Osbaldeston, Seb Patane, Charlotte Prodger and Florian Roithmayr. Taking its exhibition title from Andrew Blair’s early 1874 science fiction novel of the same name, the text forges an interesting dialogue in contrast with the work of 2013 Wysing residency artist Gustav Metzger, whose writings and activist activities from 1950s onwards have been prescient of our current concerts. Whereas Blair suggested a driving force for action resulting from passive spiritual change, in Metzger’s writing it is dependant on fast, responsive personal decision.

Annals of the Twenty-Ninth Century takes Metzger’s concerns and influence as its point of departure from which to bring work by the other artists-in-residence together. Launching on the year of Wysing Art Centre’s 25th birthday, and the first exhibition of the 2014 programme, Annals of the Twenty-Ninth Century will aim to look at the potential of the future through what is known of the past; realised through ongoing residencies, artistic retreats, events, exhibitions, and an innovative Futurecamp during the summer of 2014.

A coach will be travelling from London to Wysing for the launch, costing £10 per person, and departing from outside St. Pancras Station at 4pm, returning at 8pm. To book a place please visit the Wysing Arts Centre Eventbrite page.

Launch event: Saturday 15 February, 6-8pm
